Thailand features an array of breathtaking seas and beaches, precious natural treasures deserving of preservation. However, the presence of garbage and plastic waste along some coastlines poses a pressing environmental issue. According to the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Thailand contends with an estimated 32,600 tons of plastic waste polluting its oceans annually, causing negative impacts on the marine ecosystem and disrupting the balance of our food chain.
Electrolux Group, a global leader in home appliances, recognizes the pivotal role environmental stewardship plays in securing the sustainability of our world and the people’s well-being. In line with this commitment, under the Electrolux Thailand Beach Cleanup Program, the company brought together over 150 enthusiastic employee volunteers in Thailand in collaboration with the Pattaya community to embark on a mission to clean Jomtien Beach in Pattaya, one of Thailand’s famous tourist attractions.
With strong support and cooperation from the local community, this program aimed to reduce the garbage and plastic waste along the coastline, which is an important contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and global climate change.
Tomasz Sypytkowski, Electrolux Head of Sales Area, Southeast Asia, said, “We extend our appreciation to our employee volunteers and the supportive Pattaya community for joining hands in this meaningful initiative. It’s a testament to the belief that collective efforts, no matter how small, can make a difference in the community we serve. This underlines Electrolux’s commitment to our sustainability goal of achieving climate-neutral operations by 2030.”
Rungnapa Jaimano, one of the Electrolux volunteers, expressed her pride in being part of Electrolux. She shared, “Participating in this volunteer activity reinforces our awareness of the importance of environmental protection and community care, actions that each of us can easily undertake. It starts with something as simple as not littering, especially with plastic waste, into our natural surroundings. Additionally, conserving energy and reducing the use of plastic bags and containers in our daily lives can be an easy contribution to our sustainable environment.”
